Instead, we were told to “calm down,” “toughen up,” or “stay positive.” But the truth is, emotions are at the core of every human experience and learning how to understand and work with them (not against them) is one of the most powerful things you can do for your mental health. Think of emotions as an internal GPS. They tell you when things are going well and when something needs attention.
Emotional fluency is like learning a language, once you can “speak emotion,” you can better understand yourself and others. Why does this matter though? Because unprocessed emotions don’t just disappear. They show up in anxiety, irritability, depression, chronic stress, trouble in relationships, or even physical symptoms like fatigue and tension. When you ignore emotions, they find other ways to be "heard."
Emotion coaching helps you tune in instead of pushing away. It teaches you to recognize what you're feeling, why it's there, and what to do with it. This kind of awareness builds resilience among many other things. You'll feel more in control and not because you're shutting emotions down but because you'll know how to move through them in a healthy way.
